Llangwm has entered the Best Kept Village Competition
for many years. Some residents can trace back the competition to their
youth. Then for a period of time Llangwm did not enter but we have been
entering now for nearly 20 years The wall near the clock in Llangwm
Hall shows the various prizes won over the years.
There is a small committee which meets once or twice a year to determine
what improvements can be made to our entry and communicate the ideas
to the village, by means of the village website, village e-mail list
and leaflet drops.
There is a larger group of volunteers who individually take responsibility
for litter-picking over sections of the roads, looking after the area
around the hall, cleaning the milestone, road signs and salt bins, managing
each of the flower beds etc.
The most important contribution is made by each of the villagers, keeping
the area around their own property looking clean, tidy and attractive.
We are grateful to Llangwm Community Council, which has supported our
efforts over the years.
Thank you all.
In 2019 the goal posts were moved.
The competition became 'Be Proud of your Community' with five
sections:
Remembering Them;
Saving the Planet;
Taking Care of your Community;
Go Wildlife;
My Favourite Place (11-25 year olds).
Llangwm entered one section: Taking Care of your Community.
The rules have changed a lot and we struggled to fill
the complicated form in. The judges were looking beyond a tidy attractive
village to how the local community promotes a caring environment. Different
criteria, but still very worthwhile, perhaps more-so.
In this first year of the new competition,
Llangwm won a Silver Award.
In 2020, we will be looking at exciting new activities to enter other
categories and to enhance the spirit of Taking Care of your Community.
We hope that you will all actively take part in this re-focussed competition.

Recycle More! It's easy
and it's local
Llangwm is launching a project to collect items that
can now be recycled, regardless of any wording on them.
There will be a collection box inside our village
hall. All included items can be put in together and will be sorted by
volunteers.
