WHAT'S BEEN HAPPENING

15th October -    Murder Mystery Evening
A band of 5 members went to Llanellen Hall for an evening of good food and
fun. Before the meal (which sounded absolutely delicious) the murder was acted
out. During the meal, the actors circulated, spending time at each table when
they could be questioned about the murder. After the meal, the Inspector also
questioned them. Then each table had to decide who was the Murderer and
Why? Our intrepid group nailed the culprit! but for entirely the wrong reasons!

A thoroughly enjoyable evening was had by all.

29th October - WI Council Meeting
Shirley reported on the business of the meeting, that Denman had broken even,
that Home&Country advertising profit subsidises membership and Denman and
that the Subscription next year will be £21.

A number of members went to this meeting  and were delighted to collect the
Rolls Trophy for Llangwm and Llansoy WI. This is awarded to the WI gaining
the most points in the Autumn Show - well done everyone!
In particular, Congratulations go to Sue Manners who was the individual with
the most points in the whole Show.
The speaker was Janice Wade, a retired Detective Superintendent with the West
Midlands Police. Her talk was interesting and perhaps a bit more graphic at times
                         than people were used to.

4th November - Karen Reed came to talk and demonstrate Christmas Decorations.

This was flower arranging with a difference. Karen was very practical and during
her creation of a candle table centre, a handtied bouquet, a door decoration in a
'shovel' and a front-facing arrangement, she gave us lots of 'hot tips'.
                         1. Push the candle in the oasis before you soak it - the oasis will grip the candle.
                         2. Lily Pollen - cut out stamen to avoid pollen stains. Too Late? - use sellotape to
remove about 80% then soak in cold water and wash normally.
                         3. Spray Carnations-never buy if no colour showing on buds - they won't open.
4.Wiring Walnuts -at the centre of the base is the softest part - glue wire and push
5.Don't put citrus fruits near flowers - the gas will cause the flowers to die.
                         6. Don't put other flowers with daffodils - the sap is poisonous.

There were plenty more - you should have been there! Do go and see Karen
in Abergavenny Market. She is friendly and helpful and practical.
We all learnt something - including how to make bows!
